Does anyone know if we get a "free point" on the essays? A 1 to 10 scale, for example, as opposed to 0 to 10.

Trusts, Guardianship, Agency, and Partnership seem deceptively easy, at least in the scheme of things

Corporations is okay

Wills and Estates, Secured Transactions, and Commercial Paper I have no clue what is going on

So how is everyone studying for property essays?

seems like it could cover just about anything under the sun. relying mostly on MBE prop knowledge?

i did one question each of mortage, homestead, and landlord tenant. did ok, but there was definitely a lot of texas rp stuff i wasn't sure about. i don't exactly know what the level of expertise or accuracy is supposed to be on Texas essays. is a "good faith effort" where you show you know some rules and studied the subject enough to get a decent grade on the essay portion?

Are you doing BarBri? If so, would you mind telling me which Real Property essay numbers you did so that I can just go to them as opposed to having to consult the questions to see what they're testing?

the released materials on the ble site are awesome but their format is awful AF since they keep all Q&As in a million separate docs & arent easily copy & pasteable

I'm relying on a mixture of MBE prop knowledge, prior Bar essays, and whatever Themis throws at me. Do I know them super well? Nah, but I can get enough points on them. I'm just hoping there's not another "mechanic's lien" type of question that's out of left field.

Actually, I'm generally hoping there aren't ANY procedural essay questions. Those are hit or miss.

i'm not exactly sure what the required mastery of the essay subjects is to do decently - ill have finished learning and covering all the essay subjects by the end of this week, and have done a couple of essays each. as long as we make a good faith attempt and get some of the issues with analysis, is that enough to get an overall like ~16/17 out of 25? my MBE scores have been pretty good, so im hoping as like as i can put some stuff down for the essays i can get like 27/40%. any ideas or knowledge from former years?

Is this right? Because if it is, that means just by attempting to answer the essay we're getting 10 free points per essay * 12 essays * 2 = 240 freebie points toward the 675...

Is it out of 1000?

If it is, essays are worth 40%, which would be 400 points

400 divided by 25= 16. So it would be 16 free points out of 1000 total

400...

*.40 (cause u get 10/25 for the worst answer possible) = 160 free

Lol. I chalk it up to both sucking at math and not understanding Texas's esoteric scoring system. But BVest's earlier post makes sense.

for those taking barbri, i just finished covering trusts today. supposed to be doing wills 1 and wills 2 over tuesday and wednesday. i did *not* like stanley johanson's trusts lecture. at all. it just seemed like endless examples from past exams. are the wills lectures better? are there any alternative sources that are more efficient or should i just hope for the best?

Do you think the best way to study for Crim P&E is to go back 4-5 years studying past exams questions and answers, but really focusing on the most recent years (i.e., 2014, 2015 and esp. what was tested this past Feb.)? I've noticed a lot of similarities in the questions that are asked within the same year when comparing Feb. and July tests for Civ Pro P&E, so wanted to see if you had any thoughts or ideas about the Criminal side. I am definitely taking a ride on the struggle bus with trying to study the right things...it's all so overwhelming! Just about every UCC essay causes a slight panic attack. #july29 #bestdayever

I think 2 years ago (possibly 3) they hired a new board examiner/ test designer (I don't know the right title for the person) for the Crim P&E. So Barbri says that there will probably be new trends, but they aren't sure what they are yet. The old examiner loved grand jury / indictments and was repetitive on that, so I'm going to stick with that as my plan of attack. I don't know if that extends to Civ P&E

it would be easier if there were were some bank of like 50 very common questions for both the civ/crim p&e portions instead of having to aggregate in a halfhazard manner trying to make one.

Thanks! That's very helpful to know about the new test designer and past focus on Grand Juries and indictments - there is just SO much to study when it comes to Criminal and Civil P&E, it's so hard to narrow it down! A testing bank would be a special treat. :)
