Those are good scores this early on. Sometime by July, I would do the 6-hour practice test in the back of Vol 1 and aim for 130+ raw. I would be worried if I didn't make 130. Well, I would be worried regardless unless I got all 200GitRDone wrote:Does anyone know what a good score is on the MBE questions in Emanuel's "Strategies and Tactics" book?
There are no suggested scores/"goals" that I am aware of in the book. In the alternative, is anyone willing to post what they're getting so all of us have an idea if we're in the ballpark of where we should be at this point?
I just did the 58 Torts question on pages 350-364 and got 38/58= 65%. Previously i did the 41 Contracts questions on pages 86 - 97 and got 25/41 =60%. Am i anywhere close to where I should be at this point?
Thanks for everyone's help!

How are you all outlining for each subject? The Barbri outlines tend to be 20-30+ pages and I'm pretty sure most of it doesn't get tested often. How do you know what to condense down to 5-7 pages max?

With my experience, the barbri essay grading was all over the place. Some seemed more accurate than others. It probably depends on the grader.adonai wrote:Would it be safe to assume that the "true" score of a barbri essay/PT is 5-10 points higher?
A friend was a grader for barbri and he was basically a recent law grad who passed the exam, but didn't have prior experience as a real grader or anything like that.
If you look at the real essays that score 65, 70, 75 on baressays.com and compare them to barbri's grades, you'll notice the differences.

Yeah, I've been keeping it really light myself. I've just outlined and done MBEs for a couple of subjects. After slacking off today, probably going to start hitting the ground hard tomorrow.Jessuf wrote:I haven't started studying yet. I thought maybe June 1 would be a good date?![]()
CA Bar let me change my test center even though it was full, so I am very excited about that.
I think most people are just finding their feet.

It is week 2 for me and I still don't know what I'm doing. I took 2 practice PTs and didn't know what I was doing but apparently I did very well on them.zeth006 wrote:Yeah, I've been keeping it really light myself. Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
My class started a week early and stopped the second week because of a certain school's graduation, but I kept working through the second week. I'm a slow memorizer and anxiety easily gets to me, so I figured I should continue working so I'm less stressed later on if/when I fall behind. So far, I've done Torts, Contracts, Con Law. I learned Contracts well, but after I did Con Law, I discovered I had already forgotten a lot of Contracts after two days.

Torts. Making flash cards and drilling mbes. Start contracts tonight. Basically I have decided that doing some memorization is better than ampss1m4 wrote:What have people done so far?

Haven't started studying. Will probably start studying the second week of June. Or sooner.

How many words do you write for essay and pt? 1,000 words and 2,000 words? Or 600 words and 1,200 words?

K MBEs. Probably not going to touch essays for at least another week or two until I've gotten the BLL down cold.s1m4 wrote:What have people done so far?

Are barbri's MBE questions really harder than the real thing. I feel like they are all on the fringe.

You mean the study smart questions? I feel like those are much harder than the questions from the book (which I think are past MBE questions?).jarofsoup wrote:Are barbri's MBE questions really harder than the real thing. I feel like they are all on the fringe.

From what I've seen, Barbri question hypos tend to be way longer and often times confusing as a result. Most real MBE questions from BarMax I can read answer well within the 1min 48s allotted per question.
Just my $0.02. If I ever for some odd reason run out of BarMax Qs, I'll probably revisit a few BarBri ones.

Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
Have you guys done barbri's contracts yet? I'm on day two and find the amount of information really overwhelming. I've been going over lecture handout w the cmr but they aren't exactly aligned the same way logically. I'm understanding the concepts and everything but i'm just really confused as to what my source for memorization should be when it comes down to it. Should I rewrite my lecture notes omitting the hypos/make that my outline for memorization? I thought that was considered a waste of time.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
