Not that I want to be dwelling on this, but I realized I wrote the wrong law for at least 3 issues. Is that automatic failure?

Can someone explain to me how the mbe grading works, how the curve is set, and what happens to the people who got the thrown out questions correct.

Look at the seperac website. I think there are two separate processes, one for the MBE curve and one for how New York incorporates it into their 40% weight for the MBE.pizzasodafries wrote:Can someone explain to me how the mbe grading works, how the curve is set, and what happens to the people who got the thrown out questions correct.
HOWEVER I should point out that it is extremely unlikely that anyone is in a position where the only thing saving them from failing is their correct answers on disqualified MBE questions.

You guys. I just gotta say... New York is a blessing compared to MA.

Many of the released answers state incorrect rule statements. Those are considered "superior" work. What do you think "average" work would look like then? Below average but still passing? I don't think it matters that much.AJS30 wrote:Not that I want to be dwelling on this, but I realized I wrote the wrong law for at least 3 issues. Is that automatic failure?

I feel much worse about my chances after seeing what is considered a passing score.

Ignore that and think about the fact that you needed to perform at the 15th percentile to pass.pizzasodafries wrote:I feel much worse about my chances after seeing what is considered a passing score.

Its really crazy how quickly I can go from "I think I passed" to "likely I failed" so soon after the damn test.thetashster wrote:Ignore that and think about the fact that you needed to perform at the 15th percentile to pass.pizzasodafries wrote:I feel much worse about my chances after seeing what is considered a passing score.

It seems like everyone I speak with either had trouble finishing off the test on time or felt it was extremely difficult. I thought it was alright and not that much different than Barbri's MBE questions for the most part. But there were literally like 30 questions where I was choosing between 2 winning choices. Just hope I chose the right ones more than the wrong ones.

This thread should really be dead silent unless you're talking about all the beers you're drinking.

Hi guys,
I'll be taking the NY bar next July and wanted to have an idea of when you started the BarBri course.
I looked up their website and couldn't find any info on this.
I'm trying to schedule a quick trip after graduation and just wanted to make sure I won't miss classes.
Thanks!

MAJOR MAJOR THANKS to you guys (who got me through the bar)--and special shout out to 5ky for keeping me sane and calming me down at my worst. Can't believe I passed. As you can see above, I swore I fail right after the test and even up to yesterday (as I pretty much guessed between a few choices for 75% of the exam, didn't finish the MPT, and LOLd on the NY multiple choice). I had even prepared to change jobs and locations once i got confirmation I failed.
Passed with a ~168, which is about the improvement barbri said I would have over its midterm score. Crossing fingers it wasn't a clerical error haha.

Depends on your location--but I wanna say most barbri classes start end of may. I mean, it's all online, so you can watch it wherever. You can def. miss class and work in May and the beginning of June. Srs bsns starts in July, I'd say-but the better you pace it, the less awful your inevitable panic attacks will be. But I didn't hit the books crazy hard till after July 4th.Unagi wrote:Hi guys,

You'll wanna just take it easy May-June. By easy, I don't mean totally blow it off. Just keep a slow but steady pace the first month. Unfortunately, the way barbri works, you can't even really hit the books hard until July 4th. They just don't give you enough information to do so. If doing essays before you have info freaks you out, don't do them-- just read through them. And make sure you look at the samples on the BOLE website, b/c you'll see that a "passable essay" is achievable and not how barbri defines it.
Do as many multiple choice as you can. I wish I had done more. Do some from the NCBEX website on days where your confidence is low-- it'll be a confidence booster.
For MPTs, meh, MAYBE do 1. Definitely sit through the one workshop they offer, and read through your notes for it the week before to get the formats down. Hell, make flashcards of the 5 or 6 formats and just memorize them. It's formulaic. If you're the kind that needs practice, then do it.
Outline, outline, outline, outline. Doing so will help you remember your shit. Make shorter and shorter versions of outlines. Put on a movie and sit there and outline. Have a beer and outline. I wish I had done more of it.
Good luck!
