I'm in mass so we still have quite a ways to go - but anxious to hear how the results pan out for the early states. Good luck NC-ers who are waiting on results this week!
Hey. I'm in MA. I'm a repeater. Missed it by 1.9 points in July. I felt great after the exam and still feel pretty hopeful about it. I think what's making me nervous is that people mention the stats of repeaters....apparently few repeaters pass! I just felt that the MBE this time around was way better than in July.
When I see posts like this, it makes me so nervous! I'm not a repeater, but I feel like I've seen a lot of repeaters post that the MBE this time around was way better than in July. I thought the MBE sucked! I felt like I was able to narrow it down to two (most of the time) and then it was a guessing game... I can't imagine how that could be any better or worse than July. Did you actually feel confident coming out of the MBE?
I completely agree with you! I was a first time taker and thought my morning MBE was so brutal - it felt like every single one was a total toss up between two of the answer choices. I personally did not feel comfortable leaving the AM session but my PM was far easier. Hopefully it balances out!

This time, because I was working, I felt like I had to study smarter rather than harder. I got my MBE scores up, but I was nervous both before and after taking it because I didn't feel like I knew as many nuances as I did when I had 12 hours a day to study in the summer. I came out feeling better than I did in July, but I was uncertain on how I did until I opened my letter. Good luck to those of you still finding out. This thread has been extremely comforting to me over the past few days. If anyone needs anything or has any questions that I can answer (I don't know what those would be, but I'll at least offer), I'll be more than happy to help.
Congrats!! Go celebrate! Hoping for similar news as this thread rolls on in the coming weeks

Thank you to everyone for the congratulations! I tried to post something once, but it didn't work. I guess I used up all of my good luck and skill on the bar, which is fair enough. Yes, I passed the NC bar. NC doesn't provide people who passed with scores... you can only get them if you fail, and even then, you have to jump through a lot of hoops requesting them and pay them more money. I got a scaled 140 on the July MBE, but when I went into the exam, I was making at or below whatever Barbri set as the goal. That 140 was more luck than skill--MBE was my weakness, and I hit it on a good day. Unfortunately, the essays worked in the reverse. I have a tendency to just breeze through MBE questions and try to do as many as possible. This time, I lowered the quantity and improved the quality. Even on questions I got right, I forced myself to read the entire explanation for the answers, and I jotted down notes. By the time the February bar rolled around, I was only missing 1-2 questions at most out of every 18-25. My practice MBE score went from about 50% to only missing 30 questions. That being said, you have to figure out what works for you personally.
Getting my MBE under control helped me feel more confident headed into the exam. I felt much better about this one than I did in July, but I still wasn't certain I passed. I don't think anyone will ever be ready for all the things that might be thrown at them, but I tried my best to prepare for the things that stuck out as weaknesses.
I wish the best for each and every one of you! Studying for the bar once is hard enough, but studying for it more than once and overcoming the self-doubt caused by failure is a Herculean task. Waiting is the worst, but I hope that you all get nothing but good news!

Congrats. I'm happy for you that you get to put this nightmare behind you. Do you mind sharing your first overall score? 140 on MBE, what about the written portion?

I made a 347 the first time. Yes, that's right... I missed it by 3 points.

99.1% of the required points and they shut you out completely. These guys are a-holes!

Very happy for you this time around. I hope all the second timers will have similar results.

Hey all! First time poster, long time lurker.
Wanted to report another PASS in NC! First time sitting for the bar. I have two friends, also first times sitting for the bar, and also both passed. All three of us are non-traditional students: all early-to-mid-30's, all formerly employed in non-legal fields, and all early graduates this past December (Wake Forest).
I felt good going into the bar, felt good (not over-confident) walking out. I did 100% of my Barbri study plan, which I completed more so because it was the only thing I could control in this whole horrid process. As the weeks wore on, I had become convinced that I'd failed. Nightmares, heart palpitations, crushing anxiety.
Best of luck as results for other states begin rolling in soon!

I'm a re-taker (failed the July exam in NC) and passed as of today. I have to say I thought the July MBE was awful. I walked out of the exam wondering "wtf was that?!" February felt much more in-line with what I had studied with Barbri and Kaplan. Certainly wouldn't say it was easy but July's MBE felt like a foreign language whereas at least the February MBE felt fair.
For all of you who are still waiting my only advice (as someone who has failed the bar before passing) is to move on. Give yourself a 24 hour window to feel pain and anger. Send yourself an e-mail or use a post-it note, something for the next day to say MOVE ON. Dwelling on the fact that you fail will not help you. Learning to move forward and doing what you need to do will get you to pass.
After I failed the first time I was furious. I had trusted in Barbri and their moronic lecture videos. The second time around I knew it was the MBE that killed me. I didn't watch a single lecture, I did 100 MBE questions every day. No more, no less (until about the last 3 weeks when I started doing mock MBEs). I spent the last weekend before the exam reading every essay in the state essays once. Nothing Monday but rest and getting to the hotel.
Now that formula isn't for everyone, it's just an example. I knew I needed to work on the MBE. Be honest with yourself and have someone else hold you to that commitment. If you end up failing LEARN FROM IT and isolate what the problem was. It's not you, no you're not an idiot, the bar exam is hazing. Tell yourself you just have to get through it. Imagine it as ripping off a bandaid. It's gonna hurt like hell but you only have to do it once. Do what needs to be done and be done with it. If it didn't work the first time don't expect it to work the 2nd or 3rd time. Change it up until you find what'll work. You only need it to work once.
Best of luck everyone and God speed with those letters reaching you with good news!

CONGRATS ESQUIRE!!!
And very good advice. Way to stay with it. 100 MBEs a day is not an easy task.

We're in the same boat... I feel so sick to my stomach. I wish I could just sleep through the day until noon tomorrow. Oklahoma just posts the pass list online for the world to see. So for anyone who is looking to get a feel for the passage rate (at least in Okla.), there were only 167 people total who took it here. Tomorrow we can find out how many are on the pass list. Fingers crossed.

Hey. I'm in MA. I'm a repeater. Missed it by 1.9 points in July. I felt great after the exam and still feel pretty hopeful about it. I think what's making me nervous is that people mention the stats of repeaters....apparently few repeaters pass! I just felt that the MBE this time around was way better than in July.
I also retook in MA. I felt so much better right after the exam this time - also thought the MBE was much better than July. I thought the afternoon was harder. However, my anxiety is at an all time high the closer we get to results. My confidence decreases every day, too! The fact that repeat takers typically have a lower pass rate scares me to death.

Aww! Let's be friends!
Remember that repeaters include people who have been out of law school for years and also those people who were not close at all. I was 1.9 points away. They re-read my essays and my essay scores actually went down. The bar exam graders may not even practice in the area that they grade. We will make it.
I feel better this time than in July. I agree with you about the afternoon being harder than the morning.
What was your score from July? What did you think of the essays?

Kansas taker here as well. So I was so relieved to be done I don't actually remember what they said re: release. I seem to remember they said that it could be anytime between April 1 and the swearing in ceremony. Do you know if that's accurate? Also, do you know what the swearing in ceremony date is?

So the Indiana bar examiners website finally put up an announcement for the bar results release date, but misstated it by an entire month. Waiting for people to freak out lol.

What's the consensus around the Illinois release? Are we getting scores tomorrow? Last year was April 1. Guidance at the exam was first two weeks of April.

I felt fantastic for the first month post-bar upon return to the world of the living, and then tossed and turned in a cold sweat Sunday night realizing results would be out in a matter of weeks.
Hahaha deal! I did pretty equally on both the essays and MBE - 131.something on both. But I TANKED the evidence and con law question (knew it when I left in the afternoon - 30 minutes early because I was starting to cry at my computer). I felt much more prepared this time around - though the "write a bench memo" crap got annoying by the 3rd time! There were a few MBE questions this time around that I thought were super-gimmies...how about you?

I totally agree!!! I had a 140 essays last time and a 128 MBE. The bench memos were ummmmm interesting. Haha There is a forum on this site about the MA essays. Have you seen it? I agree with you about the MBE questions.
Still don't know if a rocket that doesn't go off is battery or abnormally dangerous (what I put), nor do I know about the painter who did a battery, but we will see!!
I made a list of like 40 questions that I can remember. I felt like I did well by the mere fact that I actually got to every question even if I had to rush on the last few.
I hope that we pass.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
