As a repeat taker (failed by 6 pts in july), this forum has provided much needed comfort for mounting anxiety. I appreciate glansberg for starting this forum 4 us mass takers. Good luck 2 all! I truly hope we all pass! Positive thoughts guys...positive thoughts.

Did any of you take it in Springfield back in February? I did and would do it again! Very small low key group. None of that bar drama you hear about.
Was Boston any different?

Re: MA Essays
Surprisingly, Boston wasn't bad in Feb.. There wasn't that many people compared to the July exam so instead of taking it in that room that reminds me of warehouse it was help upstairs in what could be considered their banquet halls. Maybe 200 people per room. Wasn't bad at all.Sps2016 wrote:Im not feeling 2 great either...essays were my downfall last time. There's just no way 2 tell how u did. I meant, the stats of percentage of passers and takers. Last October 23 they posted that 79% of people passed. I remember the date because I was with people. I was hoping not to be one of the approx 300 who failed!kamitchell17 wrote:Monday, the 25th - according to the ma bar examiners page...ReachTheBar79 wrote:When do you think they will post the stats??

Can they post the stats before people have had a fair chance to be notified? It would suck if you learned second hand how you fared!

Re: MA Essays
This waiting game is the worse!!! After failing the bar, I thought I would be used to this. However, this time it's worse. I keep going over the essays. Even looking at the notes I wrote. After the past exams I immediately felt like I failed. This time I really just don't know. I feel like I couldn't deal with another failure. It's been rough keeping it to myself. The comments posted on this forum are very encouraging though. Thanks! Best of luck to all!!!

Re: MA Essays
I am right there with you.. At this point I really really want this to be over. When they post the stats I will kinda sorta what my chances are because this is not my 1st or 2nd time.. My problems with the essays are the way they are graded.. You truly never know how you will do on them.. it is in the hands of the grader. I am just hoping that I was able to raise my mbe score. I felt decent in the am but my pm was brutal so I keep thinking about that.Dotson525 wrote:This waiting game is the worse!!! After failing the bar, I thought I would be used to this. I looked up past stats for MA on the NCBE site and it seems that in the past 60-63% of people in Feb pass. Oh great.

Re: MA Essays
The pm for the MBE and essays were rough for me as well. I struggled with my MBE score. However, when I was able to raise my MBE score (by 12 points), my essay score went down. It has been difficult working a full time job and studying as well. I'm so afraid of failing by 5 or 10 points. I feel like I'm going nuts.waiting06 wrote:I am right there with you.. Re: MA Essays
Yup. When my essays scores reached 148 my mbe score went down by over 10.. I cant explain it. I also work full time and at that time was at a firm that I hated which created another layer of stress. So I hope this is it for us!!!Dotson525 wrote:The pm for the MBE and essays were rough for me as well. I struggled with my MBE score. Re: MA Essays
The way the essays are scored truly blows my mind. It has less to do with your actual performance than you'd think. The essays are scaled to the MBE. From my understanding, let's say you score a 40/70 possible points on the essays and that puts you in the 40th percentile for the essay portion. Your scaled essay score ends up being the average scaled MBE score of other test takers whoalso scored in the 40th percentile on the essays. So let's say the average MBE score for people who scored in the 40th percentile on the essays is 140, 140 would be your scaled essay score.
It's really convoluted and I'm not sure I've mastered articulating it to others lol, but someone explained it to me and it's also on the BBE's website. It's really stupid.

Re: MA Essays
You explained it well. What I thought is that they grade everyone's essays. They have a pile for each score....a 1, a 2, a 7, etc. Then the highest essay score total is equal to the highest MBE score in the state. So if someone scores a 180 on the MBE, then anyone who scored a 7 received a 180 on the essay that they scored a 7 on. If the lowest MBE score is a 44, then a 0 essay is equal to a 44. I could be wrong though.Ohmygahh wrote:The way the essays are scored truly blows my mind. It has less to do with your actual performance than you'd think. The essays are scaled to the MBE.
