There is nothing that specifically says we can't bring an umbrella. But it isn't on the list of things we can bring. And they made it abundantly clear that if it's not on the list of approved items, we can't bring it.GULCPerson wrote:Yay Virginia. There is a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. I'm bringing my umbrella.

I wish I hadn't spent days studying some of the most heavily tested subjects.

Yeah I was just as surprised as what they didn't test as what they actually did. Overall, it was pretty fair I think. Morning seemed easier than afternoon

that was a long damn day. I'm fighting to stay awake, originally was hoping to go over some MBE questions for my worst subjects, but now I'm wondering if I can even make it to the shower.

Did anyone get stuck in that accident heading back east on 81?

Thankfully I think I was just behind it. Was cruising along when my phone chimed to tell me the alternate route was "2 hours and 17 minutes quicker" if I got off, took the side roads for 8 miles, then got back on. Hooray technology!3|ink wrote:Did anyone get stuck in that accident heading back east on 81?
Condolences to those who got stuck though, that's the last thing anyone needs when you're exhausted.

Google maps will do it as long as your phone is in navigation mode, even if it's only in the background. It's part of what they added since they bought Waze, which is a more full-featured app for driving directions with real-time route correction.jaysnooginz wrote:What phone app does this?!?!?!GULCPerson wrote:Thankfully I think I was just behind it. Does anyone else feel like they're left in the dark with respect to essay grading? The essays count for so much and i have no idea what a passing answer is.

I am happy with Themis, but I wish I was provided with samples of passing VA essays. I have no idea how I did.mr.hands wrote:Does anyone else feel like they're left in the dark with respect to essay grading? The essays count for so much and i have no idea what a passing answer is.

Yeah, the essay grading is ridiculously opaque. VA releases some model answers from previous tests, but they're from students who got 10's, so that doesn't really tell you what a 6 or a 7 is. But even if they did, they don't tell you what the median score out of 100 is anyway, so it's all meaningless. For all we know, 50/100 points is median, or it could be 10th percentile.
And then (correct me if I'm wrong here), whatever the median day 1 score is (let's say 70/100 for argument's sake), that's converted into whatever the median MBE score is for that administratio. The median MBE is usually around 138-145, so if it's exactly 140 and you do exactly the median on both essays and MBE, you'd pass. But if the median MBE for July happens to be 138, then you could be median on both essays and MBE but still fail!!?!? This makes no sense to me.

Are we allowed to discuss the essays in detail? I don't remember reading any instruction about that

Re: Virginia July 2015 Bar Exam Hangout
Yes!!! Finally other people are talking about it! This is precisely my understanding; whether you are minimally competent to practice law in Virginia depends on how other test takers in other states perform on the non-virginia section of the exam. Insane. I'm not sure how this isn't consider arbitrary and capricious... If people tanked the MBE this summer, we'll obviously, less virginia lawyers. At least that's my understanding. I think the stated reasoning on the vbbe website for the grading procedure is so the tests remain similar from year to year based on difficulty. Ignoring the fact that these are two different tests, written by two different entities, delivered on two different days in two different formats...anon sequitur wrote:Yeah, the essay grading is ridiculously opaque. And yes, that means during some exam cycles, "minimally competent" requires a candidate to be ABOVE average. Or as I like to say, maximally competent.

What sadistic fuck puts out model answers before results come out? (Or am I inferring too much from your post by thinking you mean model answers for the July 2015 exam?)ejc909 wrote:Because I'm a masochist, I just looked at the model answers to the exam on the GMU website....good to know I failed
