Quitting 2 year paralegal job early?

Post by tolstoyguy7 » Tue Nov 19, 2019 5:49 pm

I’m currently working at V10 firm in NYC. Started in June 2018 and was considering quitting two or three months early in March/April 2020 to go traveling/take time off/recover generally before law school. Would I be burning any serious bridges or at a disadvantage for OCI in law school? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Definitely did not go into this position expecting to quit early for context.

No, so long as you provide adequate notice (i.e., don't leave your team in the lurch). Enjoy your last free summer (ever)!

This depends by firm enough that you should ask around if at all possible. Some won't care at all, but places with a tight-knit, "do what's best for the Firm" vibe like Cravath or WLRK might blackball you at OCI.

Agree with Q that this isn't some kind of career killer, especially if you make a good-faith effort to smooth over your departure. Worst-case scenario is the above - you hurt your chances of working as an associate at one out of dozens of decent NYC biglaw shops.
