Multiple Practices?

Post by Prospect24 » Tue Mar 07, 2017 2:14 pm

This could be an incredibly stupid 0L question so if it is I'll show myself the door. I'm curious how common it is for litigators to have multiple areas they specialize in. For example, I'm interested in general litigation, antitrust, International trade (regulatory and CFIUS stuff), and international arbitration (ICC, ICISD, and similar). All of these have a lot of overlapping interests so I wouldn't think it's too uncommon for someone to be interested in these. Do senior lawyers typically just pick one area and do that? Do associates only get to work in one group or can they work across these areas early in their career? If it's firm specific what are good example say of firms that allow movement and those that don't?

Thanks for the help!

Go to a firm's website, and find the profile page for one of the partners. Look at their specializations. If they aren't in IP law, they probably have 4-5 listed.
