Federal Clerkship and violations/character and fitness problems

Post by Thelaw23 » Mon Dec 26, 2016 3:36 pm

Are minor violations from teenage years, such as open container/underage drinking going to be problematic when applying for a clerkship?

What if these violations were sealed and cleared (through ACD)?

Probably not. I think the application form asks about convictions etc. during the last ten years, so you might not have to bring them up, and the 'background check' is pretty low key. Even if you do end up reporting them to HR somehow, the application and background check happens after you get an offer from a judge, and I can't imagine things like that would be dealbreakers for most judges if they've already extended you an offer.
