Re: Tell Me Not To Go To Law School
You should be able to get a full scholarship to either UChicago or Columbia (and definitely to some lower-T14s). If you aren't happy with your current job and you have a real interest in law, it's hard to make the case that you shouldn't at least apply and see what's offered.
Come back once you know your options, and it'll be easier for us to make the case against. You may get unlucky with financial aid. It happens to some people.

Little harm in applying, because you'll probably get something that makes it worth it to go.

I echo everything said above. Those are great stats and you can certainly get into a top program and probably one or two of HYS. I'd say apply and see. A full scholarship to a T6 sounds like a win-win to me at this point in your life/career. I suppose now is a good time to do it as well.
Good luck and congrats on awesome stats!

Re: Tell Me Not To Go To Law School
A Ruby to Chicago (full tuition scholarship plus 15k annual stipend) or Yale (Coap seems like a really good and flexible repayment option for PI work) would likely be a perfect outcome for you. With the Ruby you would graduate debt free or very close especially if you take paying summer employment. HYS is the king of academia (~80%+ of the faculty at my law school have HYS law degrees)... Most of those professors have elite undergraduate pedigrees also.
Personally I would just take the Ruby if you get it because not having debt would relieve you of that stress and allow a lot of flexibility in your career (outside of academia which is still possible but less likely). I have a feeling your career potential would only grow by making the decision to gain a free law degree from an elite school. Worst case scenario is you hate law and leave it after a few years (debt free with some savings) and become a consultant (your current experience plus a law degree with new experience could get you that). I see no serious downsides even after including the 3 years of lost income (assuming you don't already make 75k plus).

Don't go. And if you do decided to apply, you should probably retake.

Honestly, I think you might want to think about going. It may help after you apply and we can view your financial aid packages, but you should be able to go to a great school very cheaply.

Yup. With those stats and a passable personal statement you are a very strong candidate for full rides at CCN and getting into at least H, and probably S, with a 50-50 shot at Y also (although if you get the CCN full ride, take it). Go forth and crush.lawlorbust wrote:.

Don't go. Seriously don't go. Your stats are killer which means you are bright and can make good money doing something else. Don't go.

You don't seem to have anything else going for you so might as well go to a good school with minimal debt

They're not publicized, but yes they definitely exist (it's the Vanderbilt at NYU). Columbia actually has started giving out way more than in the past. With your stats you probably have a decent shot at getting all 3.sjwoods wrote:.

Re: Tell Me Not To Go To Law School
I'd say to go, but at the same time try and think of something you'd really, really, really love to do. Even along the lines of "I wanna be a famous movie star!"
Then, go put nearly every waking moment into that and see if you can make it happen. If you're in your early 20s, you have time and your scores aren't going anywhere (at least your LSAT for five years).
Anyway, if you have no other desires outside of going to law school, then go ahead and go. It's a big field with lots of specialty areas and lots of options. You say you don't want to work for a big firm, so that only leaves like 95% of the rest of the legal world open to you.

This is a straight up brag post imo. Go to law school and be less of a jerk.

FWIW, I didn't get that vibe at all in the tone of the writing.star fox wrote:This is a straight up brag post imo. Go to law school and be less of a jerk.
