Calling father's friend who is head of large law firm, What to ask?

Post by dewycox » Tue Aug 02, 2016 4:27 pm

Hi all,

OL student going to top 20 law school in fall.

So my dad has a friend who has reached out to me and I told him I would call him. He is the head of a 150 lawyer firm. His firm does a variety of services including banking, healthcare, real estate, tax and much more.

I'm going to give him a call tomorrow. My plan was to ask if it were okay if I shadowed him for day, but beyond that I can't think of what to ask. 1L summer employment etc.

Can someone give me some ideas, what I should be prepared to talk about, and topics to talk about/bring up. As you can tell by the poor wording, I'm a bit lost. All help is appreciated!

dont you have some questions for him since you know nothing about law school or the legal profession? like what he does every day? why he chose what he did? ask him about his law school days and what advice he has? why he chose private practice vs govt vs whatever.
