Law Students, where can I find a "hot' legal topic to write about?
I am going to write a law article. Where do I look for some "hot" legal topics?

It is not getting me very good results. Do you have any specific resources you would use, besides search engines?cavalier1138 wrote:Please search, "hot legal topic" on Google and screenshot the results for us.

Why would you write a law article if you have no ideas for a topic?

To put it on my resume and make me look interested in the law. Maybe I can make some connections that way when people see my name in print. I am interested in the law in general I just would like to hone down on a topic.A. Nony Mouse wrote:Why would you write a law article if you have no ideas for a topic?
Do you have any suggestions for resources for cutting edge legal issues and topics?

Where do you want to publish it? How do you expect to have anything useful to say on a legal topic yet?Mark Aldridge wrote:To put it on my resume and make me look interested in the law. I'm going to publish it with a real lawyer - that's my "in." We'll be co-authors. I want to publish it in a trade journal or maybe on an on-line publication.A. As for how I'll have anything useful to say, I find it hard to believe any lawyers have anything useful to say off the bat. They, like me, will have to research their articles first and revise and conform their initial thoughts and hypotheses to how their issue is treated by courts.

Go read a book that has nothing to do with law. Trust meMark Aldridge wrote:I am actually on vacay right now! That's why I have some time to write my article. If you can make it happen with less than (arbitrarily decided) 5 hours of work... sure.
Otherwise you're better off studying for the LSAT.

Are we still treating this seriously?

Yes I am serious about it. There are a lot of naysayers on this board though that's for sure.cavalier1138 wrote:Are we still treating this seriously?
So do you have any good ideas for resources I could turn to or not?

Seconding the advice to search for "barely legal" topics. A lot of legal scholarship is concerned with liminality - that is, given that we must draw a categorical distinction somewhere on a gradient of conduct/consequences/whatever, where do we choose to draw that line, and, more importantly, why? For you in particular OP, a relatively straightforward and highly publishable exercise would be to explain why some conduct is "barely legal", and explore the different ways the legal system has arrived at that point (or, why other systems have chosen to draw the line elsewhere, necessitating an exploration of what's "barely legal" in those jurisdictions too.)
