Full Time vs Part Time

Post by oriverss » Fri Jun 03, 2016 11:19 pm

What significant differences do you see both programs? I hear that part-time students are a disadvantage from internships and such because of summer classes. How about granted scholarships? Better to go full time with >70% scholly to a regional school or part time with <30% <40% scholly to a T50 or T100? This is coming from someone who is interested in public interest law. Thanks.

As a part time student, I would argue that the only reason why someone should seriously consider a part time program over a full time program is if they have something in their life that makes it impractical to go full time. The two items that jump to mind are family matters and some types of employment.

I agree with this. I'd only consider it as a last resort, or if your current employment will help you in the long run.

FWIW I am currently enrolled as a full time student set to start in the Fall. When I graduated with my Master's I applied as a Special Agent with the ATF. The year long application process is almost over. I have the panel interview on Friday, and then the background check. If I get an offer, I will be putting law school on hold until I find out the field office I will be working out of and then will reapply as a part-time student once I'm settled in.

For me this is worth it is as Federal Law Enforcement has been my ultimate end game goal. I would not however do this for just any job.
