Columbia Curve
Hi,
Can someone from Columbia Law explain your grade % curve?
Aka 10% A, 20%A-, etc etc? Is there such a curve?
Thank you! =)

For 1Ls:
A+ (discretionary)
A 6-11%
A- 13-19%
Range for all A family grades: 25-30%
B+ 30-35%
Range for all grades of B+ and above: 55-65%
B 35-45%
<B (discretionary, and rarely given)
Range for all grades of B and below: 35-45%

Thank you so much. May I ask where this information was derived from? I am especially interested in your statement that B- is a rare occurrence. What data backs this, if any? Or is it anecdotal?

Re: Columbia Curve
White Dwarf's info is directly copied from our internal student system. Professors can petition the powers that be to give B-s and Cs, but it's definitely rare. The school essentially gives 4 grades.

Wow, thank you for the wonderful information. Rare seems subjective. Is it like...you have to really mess up to get a B- or some professors just do it consistently for every class. Have you or anyone you know received a b-?

Re: Columbia Curve
Most professors don't. There are a handful who are known to gm give them with some small frequency. Still uncommon though.
