Out-of-state summer associate?
So what's generally the procedure if you're aiming at a law firm out of your immediate region? Will T14s pull out-of-state law firms into the OCS process? Or might one summer associate in their immediate region with the intent of working with the firm at another office?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Which T14 and what is your region? Hawaii firms will not show up at Cornell OCI. Chicago ones certainly will.
You direct apply any firms that don't come to OCI or have some other interview program you have access to.

You should be a summer associate at the office you want to work at post-graduation. T14 will not have OCS/EWI/OCI/whatever firms from everywhere, but T14 allows you to reach out to firms an any region and at least get a chance at being hired. It helps to 1L summer in your desired region, too.

Ah, thank you both! I'll be looking at firms in the Chicago area from Georgetown. Good to know about 1L summer.PeanutsNJam wrote:Which T14 and what is your region? Hawaii firms will not show up at Cornell OCI. Chicago ones certainly will.

When large firms with multiple offices come to OCI, will you be given an opportunity express preference or interview with a certain office?

Of course your allowed to specify what office your applying for. You think anyone would apply to DLA Piper if they could just assign you to their Slovakia office because they felt like it?

In fact, because offices can have wildly differing practice groups, their hiring standards are totally different. Chicago OCI is not a walk in the park, though: you won't be safe unless your clearly in the top third/quarter or end up applying to non-Vault/midlaw firms.
Good luck
