Re: Working Mid-Nights And Law School
I don't know how the ABA would enforce this. I work a little bit on the weekends and there is no way they're tracking me.
That being said, this sounds like a horrendous idea. The 20 hour rule is there for a reason. Unless you're going to a school where your grades aren't going to matter (and really, they always matter at least somewhat), then you would be really setting yourself up to get screwed

It can be done if you can take time off to study for finals. Losing sleep is not worth it though, at least during finals period.

Re: Working Mid-Nights And Law School
Keep in mind that the ABA rule limiting working hours is only for full-time students, part time students taking 11 credits can work themselves silly and the ABA has no objection.
Personally I am a part time student working full time, I have not heard of many schools taking a close look at working hours unless something comes up that forces the question. Although, if your goal is to change careers as part of the effort to get the degree, it may be ill-advised to push the limits, as some of law related hiring seems to be sensitive to GPA, and I can tell you that exam time while working is a pain.

You also have to keep in mind that you have no control over your 1L schedule and it's possible (likely even) that you will have a ton of classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesdays this semester I had class basically straight through from 9-4.
Obviously you're used to the overnight thing, but I can't imagine that it would be very conducive to learning or your well being to go straight from a 12-hour shift into 7 hours of classes.

Maybe I do things weird, but for me, finals period is one of the most relaxing times of the semester because you don't have class to worry about. You just do a practice exam or two every day, maybe do some E&Es, and then you can chill for the rest of the day. The worst period is like the three weeks leading up to exams when you're trying to outline and keep up with your classes at the same time.Jchance wrote:It can be done if you can take time off to study for finals. Finals time is not in and of itself a time crunch, but for those who have been working (and have families) inevitably throughout the semester everything else takes more time than you want it to (or have been able to plan for). So I find myself trying to play catchup in the race to the exams.
