Quick q about waitlist

Post by Troianii » Thu Apr 07, 2016 12:50 pm

Does visiting really help get off waitlist? In cases where your numbers are a bit below the school's. It's a reach school for me. I was just looking at tickets and found some reasonable ones under $300 to fly to Williamsburg to visit William and Mary. I'm pretty sure that if I get off the waitlist I'll go there, this is pretty much purely a measure to help get off the waitlist. Is it worth trying?

Thanks in advance.

In my case, my lsat is pretty much median (was as of last cycle if i recall correctly, haven't checked to see if that'd been updated yet), and my gpa is below the schools 25th. Can you go to a higher ranked school - would you have to pay sticker? If you do and you're out state, do not go. Even if you're in state, don't go. But if you must, can you take the LSAT again and increase your numbers? That would more likely get you off the waitlist. If you don't want to take it again, then I think usually people do a letter of interest and I guess mentioning that you went there to visit and loved the place might help. But I don't know if it is a sure way.

Cost isn't really a concern for me - using GI Bill funds, so anywhere I go will be free or nearly free. I've been waitlisted at higher ranked schools, but those higher ranked schools are regional - like MN. I'm interested in W&M because it's one of those schools, independent of rank, which has national reach.

Yeah but what kind of jobs are they? Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad school. I also applied to it when I was doing applications, and I know in rankings they tanked quite a bit. You could do a lot worse. I would recommend looking at threads from W&M students and ask them how are job prospects. It really depends on what you want to do career wise. And you also have to realize it is a 3 year commitment, you are pretty much not earning income during that 3 years, that can have huge impact on what you might be able to do afterwards.
