Curious: do dropouts stay on the curve?

Perhaps this is a silly question, but I am curious. Do students who drop out in the middle of the semester stay on the curve? For example, 2 students in my legal writing class have dropped out in the past month and I am curious if they remain on the curve. I am guessing it varies from school to school.
