Should I have my dog during 1L?

Post by texasborn10 » Fri Mar 18, 2016 9:59 am

I have been struggling with the decision on whether or not to take my dog with me. For those of you with pets, what did you guys do? I love my pup, but I want to make the right decision. Thanks in advance...

You'll have plenty of free-time. The work-load, while heavy, is wildly exaggerated.

Above poster is correct. And not to get too sentimental, dogs are an excellent source of affection and entertainment when you are tired of reading bullshit case law. It'll be fine.

My initial reactions was "No! DO NOT GET A DOG RIGHT BEFORE LAW SCHOOL!!" for numerous reasons, very few of which are school related. But then I read that you already have a dog. Since you already have the dog and you are used to having a dog and the responsibility and pains in the butt then I think you should be fine. Go ahead and bring the dog along. You can teach him interesting things about torts and property.

+1. Plus most of the workload is controlled by you, so you can take off to go home to the dog as often as you want

Yea, I think getting a puppy during 1L is probably a bad idea, but taking care of a grown dog should be no problem.

I had a dog during 1L and it was not a problem at all. The workload is heavy, but much exaggerated. I loved having my dog with me because it forces you to exercise and is a big stress reliever.

You'll definitely be fine. Especially if you live really close to school.

The difficulties of 1L are primarily stress induced. Your schedule will be highly flexible besides class hours.
