1L Mass Mail Response

Post by eagle2a » Tue Feb 09, 2016 11:58 pm

How common is it for small firms to not respond at all to emails/letters for a 1L summer internship? Do I suck or is this pretty common? I'm at a decent T1 in Texas

Very common. They're busy and get lots of these emails so don't take it personally. Just keep mass mailing until you have something.

I've only heard back (as in a "thanks we've received your materials") from about a quarter or maybe a third of the firms I've applied to so don't worry

If there's no email address, should I call and get one or just mail. I just called a firm they said they don't take interns so I don't really want to waste the time/money in sending letters in the mail

If you have a phone number, call them. I guarantee somebody has an email address that you can send it to.

As another data point, I tried sending about 25 resumes to a small market where I had no ties. I got 4 or 5 denial emails, 4 or 5 denial letters, and a whole heaping bunch of silence from about 15 firms.

Is it okay to email the managing partner if his email is on the site?

Absolutely do not do this, unless the managing partner was given as the recruiting contact (which is unlikely, but I guess possible if the firm is small enough)
