NYU PILC Fair

Post by TheLaw2015 » Mon Jan 11, 2016 5:20 pm

What are some of the more coveted interviews at the NYU PILC Fair?

They say cover letters aren't required. Should I still be submitting a cover letter with each resume I submit?

Any general advice would be highly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

You should submit cover letters if you want to be seriously considered. Take the time and tailor your cover letter to your top choices. You can send a generic cover letter to the others, but your resume will be way easier to dismiss if you don't include at least a simple cover letter making you look reasonably serious about the job.

NY Federal Defenders is competitive. CLS of Philly is competitive. Those are the kinds of places that receive lots of apps before the fair and they start filling up before the fair too. Those are places I happen to be interested in and have investigated myself. Not sure about others.

But it doesn't really matter. We're not bidding/ranking firms except as a tie breaker where there is a scheduling conflict with two firms who want to meet you and that you want to meet too. if a place wants to give you a slot, they will, not much need to strategize if you're available all day.

As said above, tailored coverletter is credited, but back in the day, I helped my old office do initial reviews of PILC candidates, and we definitely pulled rockstar candidates for interview with just their resume. So the question to ask is: are you a rock star? Keep in mind that many employers have been hiring since December, some of them since the summer. Why would they waste their time talking to someone who hasn't bothered to submit a cover letter when they already have accepted offers from solid candidates for their incoming classes?
