Advice regarding transfer from USF to Hastings?

Post by km0ney » Thu Jan 07, 2016 12:52 pm

I attend U of San Francisco, just got most of my grades back and should land between top 10%-15%. I don't have any scholarships here. I do want to work in the bay.

1. Should I apply to transfer from USF to Hastings?
2. How does grades work after I do decide to transfer? Will my first semester GPA as 2L determine my class rank thereafter?
3. How will the OCI work for transfers at Hastings?

Any suggestions/comments/advice is greatly appreciated.

Why not USC/UCLA?

Not sure if Berk or SLS takes any transfers, but if you get really high on your class rank worth a try to stay in that market. Look at the NALP reports for schools you're considering transfering too.

If you maintain that ranking, Hastings will absolutely take you. You should definitely transfer out if you have no scholarship at USF; but I'd shoot higher. Maybe Davis?

Thanks for all the replies.

I don't want to live in Socal for personal reasons.

I know boalt takes transfers, but from recent 509 reports, they only took 1 USF transfer last year, and 4 from the next previous year. If I can get up to top 5% for spring I'll try for boalt, but I can only assume they they are trying to take less transfers from here on out. Also USF rankings have been dropping so fast, they went from close to T2 to deep into T3 :(

I went to Davis for undergrad. Didn't enjoy the town all that much.
