Hello,
Can anyone give some insight on what the job market is like for patent attorneys in St. Louis? I am considering going to SLU but know I would most likely be stuck in St. Louis afterwards.
Thanks,

Very, very limited market in STL for that area of law. A market exists in the typical large east and west coast cities. However, I've heard the patent law market is growing in Minneapolis. Check into it.

Most of the big firms there have a small patent law practice. Armstrong Teadsale, and probably the other firms, is looking for high tech patent attys right now. If you're from the area and have good patent law credentials, they'll love you. Don't go if you're not from the area because St. Louis was probably the most insular market I tried to interview in.

Thanks for the good input. I am a 0L right now trying to decide on a school. St. Louis is appealing for personal/family reasons and am considering going school there to give myself a better chance of landing a job there. It's nice to here that it is good for people from the area.ballouttacontrol wrote:Most of the big firms there have a small patent law practice. Just to be clear, I didn't mean to imply anything about SLU's prospects. That I really don't know as I'm not familiar with the school. Just that a well qualified patent attorney interviewing there would be desired by at least a couple of the big firms. But yes, the pool of people that want to work in StL, who had quality credentials, with solid tech experience is tiny which is obv good for you. I imagine out of SLU you'd still probably need some modicum of decent grades, as opposed to a bigtime school like Washington U.engineer2law wrote:Thanks for the good input.
