Hi all, I'm currently a 2L at a T30. I'm thinking about applying to MBA programs outside of my school. I have a regional biglaw job this summer and I worked in consulting/MM IB/Corp Dev/Corp Strat last summer. I have a 750 GMAT/2.4 Undergrad GPA/3.65 Law school GPA. I also have no work experience.
I'm thinking about going to get an MBA at another school and subsequently pursue business jobs. Has anyone been through the process? I'd prefer to apply outside of my school since my school doesn't have great on campus recruiting for banking/consulting.

Work for at least 2-3 years and then think about applying to business school. If you apply now, you'll likely not get into any of the programs where banking/consulting draw heavily from, and even if you did the vast majority of positions I've seen through our program request/require 2-5 years' experience (I've seen some asking for 7+) - often in a similar industry. And you won't really fit in having come straight from law school with no actual experience. People at my school have some pretty cool backgrounds and they add a lot to classroom discussions and the general social environment because of that. Honestly, working as a lawyer is pretty solid work experience that will be valued by many employers, whether it's directly relevant to their needs or not.

Seriously, what the above poster said is 100% true. I'm not on the MBA route myself, but my boyfriend he. He is a consultant for a top firm and has worked for 5+ years and is now at a management level at his firm. You will be competing with people, like him, who come from technical backgrounds and who have worked for 5+ years. He is shooting for Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT, or Duke for his MBA program and he once told me that the average WE of their applicants is like 7 years.
While not all MBA programs require such WE, the good ones do and working for a few years will only strengthen your MBA application even more.
