CPA/PA

Post by MadRebel » Wed Oct 21, 2015 3:06 pm

Could anyone here give some insight as to possible career prospects of a dual licensed CPA & attorney? Outside of class position and GPA, would it help separate my resume from the others for a mid/large firm?

Having a cpa/jd combination will open up many doors depending on where you go and what you wish to pursue. If you go to a school that has strong placement in biglaw it will give you brownie points for many firms, but nothing extreme. This may change if you have big 4 exp, as many firms like to see this. But it really only will help if you already have solid grades to flex at oci.

Even at a T1 school, there are advantages, as many large CPA firms are now recruiting heavily from law schools in areas such as transfer pricing or M&A. These are decent jobs salary wise (think 65k to 110k depending on market) that may actually lead to better exit opportunities then some of the larger firms, depending on your aspirations. (assuming the firm is big 4)
