If you could rewind time, what would you change?

Post by lillawyer2 » Sat Oct 10, 2015 7:34 pm

Would you go to the same law school?

Would you do anything different?

Would you have gone earlier/later, if you could?

Would you skip lawschool all together, if so what would you have done?

Heck yeah. I loved my law school experience.

I'm not sure how to answer your second question because I ended up doing something I love, so if I were change anything, there's a chance I wouldn't be where I am today. But, for sake of helping, I'll offer a few things anyway: I would have used supplements sooner, I would have spent more time trying to realistically figure out what I wanted to do, and I would have spent less time worrying about everything.

I went to law school the earliest I could have gone. If I had waited another year, I would have saved some money. I don't regret going when I did. Things worked out for me.

Nope. I would go again. Although not if I had already. It's way too fun to be in practice to go back to a classroom.

I probably would think about going to a different school. Most of the reason that I went to my school was because I thought I was going to be able to cash flow it if I could keep my engineering job. Turns out that the sheer craziness of my schedule makes it nearly impossible for us to save a bunch of money for tuition. I probably would have been better off just doing school full-time and biting the bullet on lifestyle during law school. My wife would entirely disagree . . .I don't think she would have done as well if we were crammed into some college apartment in a city neither of us had ever lived in.

I would have declined one of my 1L SAs and given myself some time over the summer to actually relax. Lesson learned, and I'm only doing one 2L SA. Also, I wouldn't commit to 30+ hours/week at work. It's absolutely killer when school ramps up to have a huge docket that I have to navigate around.

Nope, I'm in the sweet spot where I have good work experience, but I haven't been so long out of school that I had to relearn how to do classes.

Nope. I have an SA offer for the job I want after I graduate, and besides the facts that we've racked up more debt that I would like and I'm running myself ragged this semester trying to accelerate my graduation, my wife and I are exactly where we wanted to be when I was applying to law school. Engineering was not for me. I need more human interaction than engineering provides, and law is much more human oriented.

I wish I had gone a year or two earlier. At the very least, I wish I had planned out my life better between undergrad and law school.

In law school, I wish I had thought more seriously about clerking. Then again, I'm planning to do corporate work, so it's probably for the best.
