UT 1L taking questions
I am brand new to the law school scene. My 1L year has begun at UT Law School. Feel free to ask me questions and I will try my best to give some answers. I imagine I will check this post once or twice a day.

Re: UT 1L taking questions
My first impressions are that it is more laid back than I expected; the class room vibe is not particularly intense or intimidating. I like all of my professors and classmates thus far. Every one that I have met who are 2Ls and 3ls are extremely accommodating and encouraging. I am really content with my decision to attend to UT at this juncture.cannibal ox wrote:What's UT like?

Can Ox is a UT student. I can't help but feel that question was a bit tongue-in-cheek.A@M_or_bust wrote:My first impressions are that it is more laid back than I expected; the class room vibe is not particularly intense or intimidating. Re: UT 1L taking questions
I detect sarcasm. I never suggested that I have any "invaluable "insight to offer. I am a stupid 1L who is slightly less stupid than I was a month ago as OL. I am extending myself to those who are in the position I was in a month ago to answer any basic, trivial questions they might have about being a new law student at UT.Traynor Brah wrote:thank you for offering to share your invaluable insights

I know it is too early to tell, but what is your impression of your fellow students? Do they strike you as intelligent, insightful, and sociable? Again, very early to tell but do most seem interested in big law or other forms of practice?
Anything else you might add to somebody who might be weighing T14 (probably lower) offers with UT? (Note out of state with no real ties except to Michigan)

Take tortes. All the same obligatory, useless shit that is required, but with a sweet surprise. It's all the rage with the stupid TV fat kids that stroll the UT halls.rnoodles22 wrote:Any advice on what classes to take my first semester?

I'll take that into consideration. I've heard some things about a class entirely about Ks. Great letter. Any word?BasilHallward wrote:Take tortes. Re: UT 1L taking questions
At this juncture, everyone in my section seems to have an impressive set of credentials and degree of intellectualism. As someone who came from an undergrad institution that didn't have a plethora of particularly impressive students, this is taking some getting use to. However, most of the students in my section are vey affable and are willing to lend their insight. I already have a net of students that I feel comfortable hanging out and studying with, which is nice. As for the interests of the students, it seems to be mixed. Sure, quite a few say they want biglaw, but I think none of us really have a good idea of what we want to do yet as it is so early.Hornet2011 wrote:I know it is too early to tell, but what is your impression of your fellow students? To the last question, I am not sure that I can help as I have not done too much research on the T14 schools. I pretty much had my eye on UT all along since I am a Texas native.
I hope I was able to provide some sort of decent insight.

Quoting this totally emotionally stable post for posterity.A@M_or_bust wrote:Let me guess.... You are a 2L at UT who had a successful first year. You might even be on Law Review. Actually yes, yes you are. Good job! We are all very proud. No really, I mean it. Good job. But now you think it is super cool and acceptable to be a troll to a lowly/inferior 1L on TLS. What is humorous is that I actually know of you and will inevitably meet you in the near future.

This thread went places quickly. Where is the best place to meet other TLSers at the law school?

Back on topic: Are they still doing that free coffee once a week thing this year or what's the deal there?

I heard that they're trying to increase it to more days each week, actually. Not sure how reliable that information was, though.BigZuck wrote:Back on topic: Are they still doing that free coffee once a week thing this year or what's the deal there?

That wasn't meant to come across as some sort of threat, but more of an acknowledgement of an unavoidable eventuality.chuckbass wrote:Somewhat worried about this inevitable meeting... Oxy I hope you have some pepper spray or something.

Re: UT 1L taking questions
UT is small but it's not that small. It's actually really easy to not meet many new people once you already have friends.A@M_or_bust wrote:That wasn't meant to come across as some sort of threat, but more of an acknowledgement of an unavoidable eventuality.chuckbass wrote:Somewhat worried about this inevitable meeting...
