Legally blind & Biglaw
Hi guys
I am currently just a high school junior. I really want to work in Biglaw one day. I am a great student, and very interested in law and politics.( I am a proud Constitutional Conservative) however, there is one problem. I am legally blind. I have no vision in my right eye, and limited vision in my left. I can do everything on my own. The only thing I wont be able to do is drive. I have overcome several obstacles, and I am the only blind student in my private school.( I have won awards for best writer in my class) I type up all of my papers. Would my vision ruin my chances at Biglaw? d V5 firms look down on me because of it? I know this is a long way down the road, but I worry about it all the time. Biglaw is my dream, and I don't see why my vision should stop me.
Thanks

I know an associate at a big law firm who is completely blind. He is a rockstar at the firm, and I do not think being blind affected him negatively at all. If you graduate college and still want to become a lawyer there is no reason you can't do it and be very successful.

No, it won't. I know someone in my class who is also legally blind (she did not get big law, but she didn't really try so I wouldn't count that).

I don't think being legally blind will stop you from biglaw, if you still want it when that time comes. Congrats on your accomplishments and good luck down the road.

Sorry bud, V2 definitely doesn't look down on blindness, but V5 does -- good luck choosing a new profession.

i believe the OP before this reply. there is 0 people in biglaw that are blind and rockstars. you cant do any of the basic shit you need to be able to do to be a semi functioning lawyer, let alone rockstar, blind.Hutz_and_Goodman wrote:I know an associate at a big law firm who is completely blind. a firm might hire a blind guy just for the charity but there is no way you could be a lawyer as a blind guy. vegas odds of a retarded mute vs blind guy would be even odds for better lawyer.

Re: Legally blind & Biglaw
I am NOT totally blind. I have some vision in my left eye. I have a software that enlarges the computer screen so I can see it. My vision in my left eye is 20/600. Not great by any means, but I can see everything as long as it's not far away. From what I've read so far it seems like I could do what's required in Biglaw. I could do document reviews by reading the documents online, and type everything that someone would usually write. What's the issue with that? I am also a racial minority( my family is from the Middle East) I am a minority racially and physically. It would be very hypocritical of law firms if they are willing to hire LGBT people and women, but wouldn't even give me a shot.( I am just as much of a minority as those 2 groups) for those of you who don't think I'd have a shot, give me ONE thing I couldn't do in Biglaw because of my vision. I am a good writer, and that's very important in the legal profession.
