1. Ability to pay off loans relatively quickly
2. Looks good on a resume once you want to make a move
3. Resources and perks - Many big firms have full printing departments (my office essentially had a Kinkos inside), docketing department that will do filings for you, support staff, tech support, etc. Smaller firms don't have these kinds of resources

Since the hours are merciless, are you able to enjoy using that money?

Like I would use the money to go vacation, but you don't have many days off right?

The money is great, and the perks can be too. Dinners/car service do keep expenses down. The intensity can also be thrilling for the right personality types, and it can be personally or professionally fulfilling to work on important matters.

I'm also 0L, can't post in Legal Employment so I'll post it here.

I've been going through men's fashion advice http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... hp?t=63606

Is this a really serious thread? Like do I need to be wearing park aves or else I'll be getting on the wrong side of the firm?

I personally don't like wearing suits too much

Most firms don't wear suits on a daily basis. Some do. You also have other things to worry about surely.

Re - days off: Most big firms include brutal workloads and a commitment to being responsive to client demands/requests. The firm will be closed weekends but emergencies or piled up work could make it spill over. You'll be able to schedule vacation but it will be difficult sometimes given client demands. The unpredictability and intensity is much more of a factor than the overall hours burden.

Re - fashion: Some people take it seriously, but the average lawyer is hardly immaculately dressed. You need to be clean and professional, you don't have to obsess over style.

No. AE is just a recommended brand for mens dress shoes. I gather it sorta became an ongoing joke on here though -"Park aves or no offer"

Oh okay this clears up a lot. I currently wear a dress shirt and dark blue/black chinos to work everyday and hopefully i will be able to do this later on.

I read on another thread that wearing sweatpants to law school will be looked down upon but it's currently pretty controversial. I've been wearing sweatpants to class every day last year in UG.

This intrigued me because i barely can remember what my colleague is/was wearing and he's like 1 foot away from me. Not to mention remembering what shoes ppl wear. I mean I doubt most ppl remember/notice what other ppl wear unless its super flashy or worthy of attention.

Do lawyers/firms care more about how other ppl dress and actually notice if you're wearing a charcoal suit or blue suit?

This issue was discussed on that thread. Some people feel it's stupid to wear sweatpants to law schools, others don't care. It's up to you where you fall.

I've had mine for 3 years and fine the comfort to be average. Recently picked up the AE Brooks Bros special cap toe, similar to the park aves, and it crushes the park aves in the comfort dept. It has an insole that is more cushioned than the park aves. http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Allen-Edm ... lt,pd.html

yeah the fashion on this board is way overplayed. just look nice and presentable. brands dont matter. lawyers are cheap with very outdated wardrobes.

My firm insists on unwrinkled shorts and tee shirts at a minimum.
