Networking in LS

Post by chiBROlte » Thu Jul 16, 2015 6:40 pm

Keepin it brief: Anybody know the best way to network with 2/3Ls while at school without coming off as disingenuous or contrived? Rising 1L at T14 (don't want to reveal).

Don't neglect your 1L classmates. Otherwise, make law review or moot court or mock trial teams.

Cool, but what about the journal/LR folks?

Edit: As in, how to meet them as 1L before trying to make it onto either post-1L

You could crash their parties.

I kind of just happens naturally. At least at my school, the 2L/3L students are very approachable and willing to chat. But yes you should also make it a point to be a nice guy to your classmates. Those will be your closest friends in law school and are likely the closest leads you'll have in your network when you graduate. Also, LOL at the term "rising 1L"

Always a respectable option, no doubt.

Couldnt help using it lol but that's solid advice. Definitely planning on socializing, but also wanted to get acquainted with some tips on profs, classes, OCI, outlines, etc.

I think you're already off to a bad start by looking at this as networking as opposed to just making friends with people.

Bar review. And if write on is like ours, it's blind grading/offers, so all the networking in the world won't help you.

Edit: but it does help for figuring out what is the best slacker journal.

Join student groups where you will have something in common. Talk to people. Make friends. Things will work out. Most of networking is just meeting people who you enjoy talking to. Maybe I should repost my guide.
