This question applies to either the study of law or practice of it.
For example, one lawyer friend of mine has said he's been disappointed by and jaded by how stacked the legal deck is against the indigent in the U.S. He's lamented on how many legal cases for the poor are lost (or never even pursued) through poor legal representation (e.g., overworked public defenders, who lack time to adequately prepare), lack of resources (e.g., money needed to fight a case), or ignorance of rights.
Are there any areas of law that you've found to be different from your expectations and/or disappointed by after entering into the field you wouldn't mind sharing?
Thanks and I look forward to your responses!

Re: Are There Any Areas of Law You Feel Jaded or Disappointed By?
i did some public interest volunteer work a while back and it felt more like i was giving therapy than providing legal advice. most days i left feeling emotionally drained and like i hadn't actually accomplished much. i could never do that kind of work full time as a career. i would probably off myself.
