Chicago Biglaw salaries?

Post by bobbyshmurdah » Mon Jun 15, 2015 12:11 am

Does anyone know what the lockstep salary is for years 1-7 at Chicago offices? How does this compare to NY?

A lot are the same. But some aren't. Perhaps you should be more specific.

I'm almost positive that Skadden, Kirkland, Latham, Sidley, Jones Day, Ropes, Paul Hastings and Baker McKenzie all pay 160. There are others that pay 145 as you go further down the prestige chain.

I think the lockstep raises of the above firms mostly mirror NY market.

V30 Chicago all pay 160K starting but none of the firms in Chicago are pure lockstep. Kirkland likely pays more, while others are more black box with their "modified lockstep" approaches.

Isn't at least K&E the same until the "partner" stage? Not talking about bonuses.

I'm not aware of any Chicago firm that starts at 160 and doesn't follow lockstep. Not an expert on the issue, though. Not talking about bonuses because those are a different animal.

Sorry. I was talking about total comp and not salaries. My mistake.

Top firms track w/ NYC. Considering how much cheaper living in the Chi is than NYC, seems like a great destination city for young associates...
