I like weird threads, and I'm rather curious about the answers in this particular one.

I mean if you're pulling all-nighters then the guy on speed is definitely at an advantage. There's really never a need to do that in school though beyond poor planning. If you're getting enough sleep and don't normally have trouble concentrating then a cup of coffee does the trick just as well.

If you're trying to learn an entire course the night before an exam or just starting a research paper 12 hours before it's due then maybe.

I actually don't know a single person at my law school who uses addy. The funny thing is, at my mediocre UG it seemed like everyone was using it.

Re: Do you feel at a disadvantage not abusing adderall?
Assuming you don't have ADHD although, that's kind've the point - you're not supposed to be disadvantaged. That why addy should be taken by people who legitimately need it - to put them on an equal playing field.sublime wrote:I have never used addy or other study drugs, I did fine, and I didn't feel disadvantaged.
For normal people, addy definitely provides a focus advantage (although that doesn't necessarily mean you'll actually do better on exams).
Its sort of like using Viagra/Cialis if you don't have ED. Sure you don't need it, and it definitely doesn't guarantee you will get laid, but it can enhance your experience

No, I enjoy the idea that many of us are still doing better than some people who abuse stimulants. I hope that thought eats away at them, day by day, little by little, until their mid-30s breakdowns into the arms of a heroin addiction.

I don't know of anyone that uses it. I'm probably just oblivious though.

Needing adderall sucks and you guys suck. Might as well use the n or f word if you're going to be crass

Re: Do you feel at a disadvantage not abusing adderall?
Yes, of course I feel disadvantaged. I am stuck using Ritalin like a chump, while everyone else is popping adderall.NoBladesNoBows wrote:I understand that adderall abuse is very common, and that many choose not to participate because it is illegal/immoral/etc. I'm not really interested in talking about whether it is ethical to take it or not, but I'm curious about whether any of you that choose not to take it feel at a disadvantage as a result. I have taken adderall to study in the past and actually found that in many cases it made me much less effective (fixate on minor, relatively unimportant details as opposed to big picture). If you have taken adderall in the past but choose not to abuse it, do you feel at a disadvantage because of it?
But in all seriousness, if you have to use adderall, ritalin, or whatever stimulant (other than coffee) to gain some sort of advantage over your classmates, you may have to question whether you belong in law school in the first place. Remember, "use doth breed a habit in man", and it will not be sustainable in the long run. It is also at best questionably ethical.

I've never used adderall but I've always needed a strong cup of coffee to study. Rank them on a scale of 1-10.

Considering 2 people I know who had multiple A+s per semester use adderall to study, yes, I do.
