Transferring and Scholarships

If I transferred schools and had a merit scholarship my 1L year at my first institution do I have to pay that scholarship back? Sorry I realize this is a dumb question but I was just curious as it is kind of important for me.

It depends on what school you are at. Most schools don't make you pay it back, but there are a few shitholes out there that use the forced scholarship repayment tactic as a way of strongly discouraging transfers.
