2L SA offer timeline?
What's the timeline for committing to a full-time offer from a 2L SA? Would you be able to keep that firm offer in your back pocket while looking for an in-house position or going through MBB recruiting 3L year?
I guess you could always renege, but is it necessary to accept the offer, despite looking for biglaw alternatives?

Nah, it's totally OK to shit on a SA offer last minute - stiffing the firm that was willing to take a chance on you and dicking someone else out of a 2A spot.
3L hiring is mad spotty. Don't mess up an SA if you get one. But you do you bro

I don't plan on landing a 3L gig, but I definitely plan on looking.zacharus85 wrote:Nah, it's totally OK to shit on a SA offer last minute - stiffing the firm that was willing to take a chance on you and dicking someone else out of a 2A spot.

NALP rules say you're supposed to decide by October 1st. You might be able to get an extension but that's the standard time frame.

That's pretty early. So if you want to look for biglaw alternatives you have to put all your eggs in that basket and turn down the SA offer?Tiago Splitter wrote:NALP rules say you're supposed to decide by October 1st. You might be able to get an extension but that's the standard time frame.

Renege is probably the "right" call here but certainly don't expect to work at that firm again and be comfortable with the idea that recruiting departments talk. If you truly are cool opting out of firms altogether for the foreseeable future it's not a big deal though.
I'm assuming you already have the SA lined up, ignore people who are claiming you are being rude to classmates/peers who are still looking. If you dropped out now your firm would definitely not replace you for this summer. If you took the offer in September with no intention of ever working full time that's kind of a dick move but can't change the past and you gotta look out for #1
