Post by BankruptMe » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:17 pm

In a firm (of any size really), what is the typical turnaround for a research assignment?

Yeah, this question is overly broad. The solution to having this problem is to ask the question "do you have a general timeline for this research?" when receiving the assignment.

Depends on what the partner had for lunch.

Yes. But more often than not same day regardless of when given.

You'll get the hang of it. Try to ask for a deadline. But usually confirming and then turning it around as quickly as possible suffices. Same day is a good rule of thumb for discrete issues.
