Is there a dress code for classes?
Is dressing casual in cargo shorts, a shirt and sneakers appropriate or allowed in law school classes?
Also is a suit mandatory for most orientations? Are most people wearing 350 dollar suits and up, or can I get a regular blue suit with light blue pin stripes at JC Penny and that would be acceptable? What color suit is appropriate and are black leather shoes and what color tie is appropriate?

Wear whatever you want during classes.
Nobody is going to judge you on the price of your suit in law school. Just make sure it fits. Black, navy and charcoal are the most common colors. Wear shoes and ties you're happy with.

If you're fine with your classmates thinking your mother dresses you, yes.tier3 wrote:Is dressing casual in cargo shorts, a shirt and sneakers appropriate or allowed in law school classes?

Make sure your suit fits well. Pin Stripes are awful. Just get a well fitted dark navy suit w/white shirt. JC Penny Suits are pretty bad, but if it fits well it'll do.
Only wear a suit if you're going to be seeing an employer.

I have noticed that people pay much more attention to the watch that you are wearing. Make sure you do not mix your golds and silvers.

People wearing a suit during orientation were very much the exception.
Wear whatever you want to class. Some people wear sweats. Some people wear sports coats.
Just don't wear cargo pants.

You obviously don't live somewhere where the summers are quite warm.

Sport coats can be wicked casual, and some students are over 30 (PhD types). In the winter, not suprising at all.BigZuck wrote:You srs?phillywc wrote:Some people wear sports coats.

As an old with a graduate degree myself, I can categorically say that this is not a good excuseflawschoolkid wrote:some students are over 30 (PhD types).
Then again I've been known to rock the occasional jort to class, so I should probably STFU

Huh? I see plenty of my limo drivers, bellmen, and wait staff in black -- I think it's fine.JamMasterJ wrote:Wingtip88 wrote:Wear whatever you want during classes.

Yeah, it's a casual coat, they are older, and they wear it well. Certainly not something I would attempt.flawschoolkid wrote:Sport coats can be wicked casual, and some students are over 30 (PhD types). Re: Is there a dress code for classes?
It's not so much that you will need to wear a suit to every class; more importantly, it's recommended that you bring a small wooden podium to class when it's your day to be on call.tier3 wrote:Is dressing casual in cargo shorts, a shirt and sneakers appropriate or allowed in law school classes?
