BU Law 3L taking questions

Post by sumner » Tue Oct 07, 2014 7:22 pm

BU 3L K-JD will be working in mid-law next year. Any questions about BU, Boston, or law school in general?

Hey thanks for doing this!

Do you have any advice for contracts/civ pro with Pettit/Harper?

Does BU help at all with finding 1L summer employment or are we on our own pretty much?

Sorry I didn't have either of those professors. As far as the 1L job hunt, I do have some thoughts. I don't think the CDO does the best job in the Fall getting you ready for the 1L job hunt. Right about now you're going to start getting some emails about job fairs and the deadlines will completely sneak up on you. You should really start looking ASAP or you'll be like me and not have a good job while a bunch of gunners are talking about their sweet summer gig. It worked out for me, but having to look for a job in the spring is really stressful. A lot of people had their jobs locked up in December and January and had a much more pleasant second semester. You'll go through the same thing with OCI, it sucks to hear your classmates talking about how they already have a job when you're still looking. At least with the 1L job search you have a little more control over the process. I know it's hard to devote attention to anything but your 1L classes right now but it will definitely pay off to start looking for a job early.

Also, keep in mind that your 1L job isn't too important as long as you have one. Obviously an appeals court internship is better than a superior court internship but something like the AG's office is a great gig and they hire a lot of BU people. That's one of those employers that hires from one of the early job fairs so keep a lookout for that.
