University of South Carolina School of Law 3L taking Qs

Post by Scotusnerd » Sun Sep 07, 2014 7:45 pm

3L Gamecock, top 25%ish with extracurriculars. I see a lot of old and outdated information on these forums about my law school, so I'd be happy to answer any questions you folks have about the area, the school, and the legal market.

It might take me a few days to get back to you, since my schedule is insanely busy at the moment, but I promise I'll get back to 'em when I can.

If you want biglaw, South Carolina is not for you. We have Nelson Mullins, Nexon Pruett, rogers townsend and Thomas, Parker Poe, Turner Padgett, and a few others. Most of them are South Carolina firms rather than big chains. All in all, about ten "large" firms. The numbers of people who receive summer employment are extremely small. Out of my class of 210 people, I want to say maybe 10-20 got summer offers. And I'll let the actual number of offers speak for themselves:

Most people who get summer jobs seem to be hired, but as you can see, it's pretty small. But that doesn't mean there aren't jobs here, it just means they aren't biglaw. We have a ton of local firms that do hiring, as well as a lot of state government jobs. OCI is not our primary mechanism for getting jobs.
