0L Prep 1 month before classes start
How should I prep the month before classes start. I have been reading planet law school. All of my books came in along with Glannon guides for each subject. Should I begin skimming through all of my textbooks/casebooks?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sounds like you're already behind. One month out I had already taken a few practice tests.

You've already done too much. There's honestly nothing you can do that will really prepare you. Just enjoy your last month of freedom. A year from now you'll regret wasting that time reading law school books instead of traveling, hanging out with friends, etc.

I'm serious. I guess it just depends on where you want to be in the class. If you want top 10% you better step your game up.RAMLAW wrote:Are you being sarcastic or serious?

The most strenuous thing you should do is line up a stellar Netflix queue. That, and frequently reapply lotion at the shore. Maybe read Getting to Maybe (and I'd recommend ditching PLS).RAMLAW wrote:How should I prep the month before classes start. I have been reading planet law school. Thanks for the advice. I am not trying to go crazy, just would like to get a slight advantage if possible.

Re: 0L Prep 1 month before classes start
i think people on here underplay the value of prepping.
GTM should be a must, not a maybe. if you have your syllabus, there's nothing wrong with skimming E and Es for things that you KNOW will be tested (negligence for Torts, diversity jx for civ pro)
w/ever though

If you can't already explain the holding of Pennoyer v. Neff to a layperson on the street, withdraw while you still can and become an Uber driver

Getting to Maybe + Read these guides http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=123092. Seriously read all the guides people wrote on how to do well and begin to think about what works for you. You could glance at your E&Es but I wouldn't do too much substantive prep on the law. Your teachers will teach each subject their own way.

Exactly. I would suggest contacting 2L and 3Ls if you can't find a syllabus. They should be happy to provide them for you. I would suggest getting through the readings before you walk through the doors.jd20132013 wrote:i think people on here underplay the value of prepping.

What is E&E anyway? Thinking I should probably figure that out before school starts.

I didn't read anything in this threat but plz go outside or play videogames or something and enjoy your last moments of freedom. Your exams are in December and there's really not a whole lot you can do right now to prepare.

Haha, though I have become curious about what they are since the neurotics keep talking about them, I was mostly kidding.

1. You don't NEED to do ANY prep before law school.
2. That being said, speaking from personal experience, if you read a ton of good commercial outlines and hornbooks even before you start law school, that is only going to help. Not saying you have to do this to get a competitive edge, but if you don't have want to have a life for the next month, hey, knock yourself out. Just keep in mind that every professor teaches the material differently, so not everything you read will be applicable to (or even accurate in) your class.

1. is true. 2. is bullshit. Burnout is a real thing. You'll have plenty of time during the semester to learn the material you need to for the exam - doing it now is inefficient at best.randomstudent wrote:1. You don't NEED to do ANY prep before law school.

OK. I'll modify my contention. I read a ton of outlines and hornbooks even before I started studying at my current school, and it helped me a lot. Whether doing the same thing would help the OP in his/her situation, especially given that s/he only has one month or so before starting school, is for him/her to decide.First Offense wrote:1. is true. 2. is bullshit. I think doing anything beyond reading GTM is inviting burnout. Also amazing how many of these threads there are.

Re: 0L Prep 1 month before classes start
Yea you have to know yourself. I read through multiple E&Es and horn books, did LEEWS/GTM and took practice tests my summer before law school and didnt burn out. I think I was (and still am) terrified of striking out so that was able to keep me motivated throughout 1L year. For most people though doing what I did is too much and no doubt a lot is inefficient because of the reasons people have already given in this thread (teachers teaching their own way ect.).Yukos wrote:I think doing anything beyond reading GTM is inviting burnout.
