Advice with next year summer internship

Post by kris4842 » Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:23 pm

Ok so I am starting this fall as a part time evening student. I want to do an internship in a law firm next summer. I would need to use all my vacation time at my job to do this so what is the least amount of time I can do an internship over the summer or is it basically 8 weeks? Thanks

1L SA's at big firms are typically 10 weeks. However, if you are going to a school that has a night program, you aren't getting a 1L SA, as summering at a firm is typically done post-2L. (Unless.... does Georgetown have one of these?) These positions are extremely rare and are typically reserved for people at the very top of their class from T14 schools, URM's, and people with very useful backgrounds (IP stuff, etc.).

If you are talking about a small firm, this will likely vary firm-to-firm, so your question is not answerable in the abstract.

Thanks, I have a good background so securing a spot should not be a big problem just trying to figure out how long it would be but I guess going on the safe side of 10 weeks will help. I didn't know that part time will be done in the 2l but that is good to know. Thanks again.

Unless your background includes being black at GULC and having straight A's and being one of the most interesting persons in school, you almost surely won't get a 1L SA from the part-time program.
