3l mass mailing and oci

Post by timmyd » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:20 am

When should a rising 3l begin to mass mail? Also, I understand 3l oci is essentially for trade ups between firms. It seems to be important that the student have a SA first. I am currently an SA but at a mid size firm of 40 attorneys. They are not nlj350 but the largest firm in north Louisiana. Does this count as having had an SA for 3l purposes, in other words, how will it be viewed by larger firms?

If you are an SA at a successful firm, what makes you think you will not be offered? Is there a problem with the pay or is it something else?

They call it a summer associate position but that is somewhat misleading. There are three of us and they have been clear they will only take two at the most so I'm just preparing a backup. They pay is market for louisiana large firms...about 100 starting out which is fine. Not alot of room for advancement though...

Depends on what kind of firms you are targeting. If you are looking regionally like the firm you are at now, it is likely going to vary firm to firm. If you are targeting major market biglaw firms, the correct time to mail is the last two weeks of July.
