I will be starting at a Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in August as a 1L and have read through many of the '0L' threads on supplements, hornbooks, summer reading etc. I have bought various E&E's, Glannon Guides, Understanding Series', Getting to Maybe, and Law School Confidential. Loyola teaches both civil and common law classes. As a Louisiana resident, I have enrolled as a civil law student so I will take typical first year classes (torts, civ pro, crim, legal research/writing) for which I bought supplements, but will also be taking obligations I (contracts I equivalent) and second semester, civil law property I (common law property I equivalent). I was wondering if anyone had any info on using a common law commercial supplement for a civil law class or if there were any civil law supplements/hornbooks/treatises/commercial outlines specifically for, say, Obligations instead of Contracts? If this topic has been covered before or is super obvious, I apologize in advance. I am relatively new to this forum. I did search around for this topic on TLS and online in general without much success.

Your best bet are gonna be the 2 and 3Ls at Tulane. Very few people on this bort go to civil law schools. You won't have to crack a supplement open until November, anyway, so you have plenty of time to figure this out.

Louisiana has a different system than the rest of the United States. It's French-based instead of English-based. It's weird and silly, but like I said, it's French.

There aren't supplements for the civil law classes like there are for the common law classes. Unfortunately the common law supplements would just confuse you as the terminology is very different. Civil law has a lot of similar concepts as the common law (e.g. we call easements servitudes) but the differences in terminology alone would make the common law supplements useless. Your best bet if you are looking for something other than a case book is to look up the Louisiana Civil Law treatise on Westlaw but other than that there is sadly nothing (at least that I am aware of).

Ok, cool. Thanks for the responses everyone! I was pretty sure there weren't any supplements and common law supplements wouldn't be of any use, but I'm glad to have that confirmed. I will just work extra hard in my civil law classes and make sure to meet with professors if I feel as if I'm not understanding something.
