So I have a question. I'm a rising 2L and really think that I want to go into medical malpractice defense law. I guess my dream job would be to either work at a firm that represents hospitals specializing in medical malpractice (some place in southern CA). I'm attending Howard Law, and haven't received 2nd semester grades yet. I honestly don't know how I did, but think i did....ok lol.
Anyway, my question is to anyone already in the field or who knows something about it. What's the best way to get into the field? I was thinking if my grades don't turn out great, possibly getting a masters in health law or something along those lines. Do you think this would be beneficial to scoring a job? What are your thoughts on clerking for a few years before going to a firm? I'm not particularly interested in Biglaw. A small to medium size firm (9-5 type of job) with a decent income (80K or so) is what I'm shooting for. I'm still pretty young (23yrs old) and so not landing a firm job right out of law school and possibly getting a master's won't be the end of the world lol. I don't have any under grad debt, and assuming I keep my scholarship I won't have more than 20K of law school debt.
Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!
