Any Thoughts: Paralegal --> Skadden-Chicago or Weil-New York
Not sure about what I want to do yet (litigation or corp). For now, I'm more interested in getting a feel for what it's like to work in law before I drop a bunch of money to go to law school. Both of these names are relatively well known, although I'm not sure if Skadden's being a satellite office is likely to reflect poorly vis-a-vis Weil. Any thoughts?

Pick Skadden because chicago is better and you'll be able to afford a good lifestyle.

Lol @ the Chicago homers.
The satellite office thing doesn't matter. Are your parents rich/supporting you? If so, I'd take Weil because as a young college grad, there's no reason to subject yourself to Chicago (ick) if you can avoid it and go to New York. If you're trying to pay off UG loans or something and you like the midwest then Skadden is smarter. This really has nothing to do with the firms and much more to do with your lifestyle preference and budget.

Give it one more month before the garbage really starts to smell and he remembers the reasons why NYC is terrible. I'm not saying it smells as bad as places in Bangladesh I've been too, but it doesn't smell better by enough of a margin.Desert Fox wrote:New York literally has garbage on teh sidewalks. Chicago is cleaner and cheaper. It's also colder and its public transportation is garbage if you don't live and work along an L train and don't intend to ever go anywhere not along that train.Desert Fox wrote:New York literally has garbage on teh sidewalks. But yeah, just choose the city you'd rather live in more.

There's a coterie of around 8-12 homeless men that sleep on the vents for warmth across the street from my apartment. They've constructed a wall of garbage bags surrounding their little camp. It produces some very interest smells. By and large, those guys are just happy they're not in Chicago though.rayiner wrote:Give it one more month before the garbage really starts to smell and he remembers the reasons why NYC is terrible. Funnily enough, I'm LA/OC bound on Sunday, so I'll miss the final month of garbage induced-loathing, and I'll return in August with a blank slate. Besides, this winter already turned me against the city more than any scent or pollutant ever could. It's all pretty moot, since CA >>>>>>>> NY >> Chi (>>>DC).

@DesertFox: Roughly Equal Pay, although cost of living in Chicago seems to be a bit cheaper.
@DELG: Could you tell me what law school you went to / what firm you currently work for? Maybe that would provide some context to your douchebag comment. BTW, I've been accepted to a T3 Law school but deferred to gain some experience before deciding which one I'll attend (or if I even want to go to law school in the first place).
Thanks again for your feedback.

Please explain to me the relevance of DELG's law school. Are you seriously this much of a prestige-whore?
ETA: I really hope T3 means TTT

The firms are letting you work for only one year? Or did one of HYS somehow let you defer for two years just to work as a paralegal?

I'm seriously struggling to understand how someone who is supposedly intelligent (unless by T3 they did mean TTT) failed to pick up on that...Hipster but Athletic wrote:She was making fun of you for thinking that Skadden's Chicago office may be lacking in prestige, numbnutz.'14grad wrote:@DesertFox: Roughly Equal Pay, although cost of living in Chicago seems to be a bit cheaper.

I will vote for Weil. I love the NYC office right across from the park.
But just go where you want to live.

I love that you're somehow associating prestige of firm/school with anything substantive.

Word of advice to OP. People on this forum work at each of these firms. Be careful how you present yourself. You will be very easy to out, just from what you have posted. And, tbh, your posts aren't showing you in the most favorable light. Just be aware.
