Is it possible to be a happy lawyer?

Post by crisgcia » Tue May 13, 2014 9:43 pm

Well, maybe not happy, but satisfied in your work and generally enthusiastic on some days to come into the office. I understand that everyone has their own definition of what a successful job entails so I would love to hear your own personal experiences with finding comfort in your career paths and how one might go about finding their niche within the law.

Yes. I like my job and I like the people I work with. I wish I worked less (50-60 hours a week) but it's really not that bad. I enjoy being at work generally, and I like my assignments.

There's a famous law review article about this. I can't be bothered to find it, but it was written in the 80s and I've been sent this article (twice, unsolicited) by people who think I'm too negative. I only skimmed it, but I suspect it advances the point that it is actually possible to be happy.
