FIU LAW STUDENTS

Post by a912p » Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:10 pm

I'm thinking about attending FIU Law in the Fall semester and was wondering what is like attending school there? How's the law school itself, of course? Job prospects? Campus life? Students?

I took a tour of UM Law and wasn't so impressed. Students and faculty came across as arrogant and snobby. I was wondering what the general attitude of students at FIU Law was?

Thank You!

I'm currently between both schools, as I have received scholarship offers from both but ultimately I think I'm going to go with UM law. Although FIU is cheaper, I still feel UM law runs the Miami legal job market. Of the 100 new partners in Miami's biggest firms, over 40 were UM alumni. Don't get me wrong, FIU law has vastly improved over its' short span, however, you cannot compete with UM's influence in S. Florida's present day legal job market.

My rant is over... As far as the law school itself, FIU is a very nice modern campus. The library is spacious and boasts state of the art accommodations. Job prospects aren't really detailed... Their alumni base is under 1500 students, albeit still growing, but it's not sufficient to pull any real data from it. I know a couple FIU law students (2L & 3L). For the most part, it seems like FIU student's are helpful - not cutthroat in any way. That's as far as I know about the school. Still leaning UM law though.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate the time and post. From what I've read, FIU is increasingly growing it's presense not only in Florida but also nationally. It's rankings are also rising. They had the biggest increase ranking wise the last four years. They finally cracked top 100 so they can only rise at this point. Let's see what happens in the near future.
