This is a recipe for malpractice. What makes you think you won't need to learn how to be a lawyer like the rest of us?

If you have thought this through, then yeah, go to where you will get a full ride.
...But think it through. Where do you plan to get the capital to open up shop?

Straight out of school? Seems nearly impossible and like almost everyone who tries fails.

OP, 0Ls are not allowed to post in the legal employment forum, so I've moved this to the Ask a Law Student/Graduate forum. Please check the rules stickied at the top of each forum if you're not familiar with them. Thanks.
Random on-topic: I know of a guy (in that I found his blog at some point) who went to North Carolina Central University and went solo out of school - http://www.lawdevnull.com/. He talks a little about his experience. He seems to be surviving, but whether it's a model to follow will depend very much on what an individual's goals are.

Re: Solo Firm. Yes or No?
WTF are you talking about? Probably 10-20% of all new law school grads go solo right out of the gate. If he only bites off what he can chew in the first few years and makes a concerted effort to (unlike the rest of us) actually learn his state's law while in law school, he'll make a fine practitioner.ChardPennington wrote:This is a recipe for malpractice. New grads actually get a significantly reduced price on malpractice insurance.Dem malpractice premiums

You really should work under someone else first if you can. Law school is really pretty useless. You would be awful staring off.

Re: Solo Firm. Yes or No?
i mean i'm sure it's totally possible to go solo out of law school just like it's possible to start any business but there's a high risk of failure and not-insignificant up-front costs so i dunno just tread carefully and adopt a pretentious name.

Re: Solo Firm. Yes or No?
You can make a lot of money going solo, the potential is nearly unlimited. You're bound only by your own limitations!
And that is the problem.
Just like everyone assumes they'll smoke the lsat, be top of their class, and rock those exams, they assume they'll be a great lawyer. Some will, most won't. It's not a slight against you, but don't count on being that solo who laughs about making his fist million in only two years. It's impractical and unlikely. If you have the money though, and hopefully a good fallback plan, then it can be worth it. For most though it's a lot of risk with a lot of debt. Even if law school is free, startup costs and such will cause debt not to mention the fact that your income is dependent on your ability to attract and retain PAYING clients. It's an admirable goal, but it also a gamble that requires an honest assessment of your abilities, finances and overall marketability.

Malpractice insurance. When attorneys screw up, people sue their attorneys. It is way harder to sue a crim defense bro though.jaylawyer09 wrote:Sorry, but what is Dem malpractice premiums?ChardPennington wrote:Dem malpractice premiumsBr3v wrote:If you have thought this through, then yeah, go to where you will get a full ride.
