Best cities in the US to practice patent law

Post by GPSRME » Wed Mar 26, 2014 9:04 pm

I recently completed a degree in mechanical engineering and I'm in the process of deciding between three law schools (one in the east, one in midwest and one in Colorado) and I was wondering if anyone could offer advice in terms of where the opportunities would ultimately be most favorable to practice as a patent attorney. Thank you.

Silicon Valley, Orange County or DC IMO

Also I can already sense you may need to retake.

Patent ... pros? Dallas is right outside the rocket docket EDTex and has literally top pat lit firms/ opportunities in terms of case quality, salary, firm business model, etc. Don't know much abt pros but usually it's guys with ee that get hired bc of the vast amount of work in telecom; circuits; semicond; bs like that

I work in patent prosecution in San Francisco/Silicon Valley and I think DC would be best. We don't really have large prosecution practice groups out here that other metro areas have.

As someone else mentioned, Dallas has the rocket-docket, has a sizable tech presence (lots of F500 tech companies), with a mix of BigLaw and boutique patent groups, the USPTO is opening a satellite office in Dallas, and on top of that, it has the best COL of all the comparable cities.
