Texas Big Law

Post by BleekerSuits » Tue Mar 25, 2014 4:28 am

Anyone have info on the big law firms in Austin / Dallas / Houston? Who are the major players in each city and how do the top Texas firms fare against the V20 satellite offices (GDC, Skadden, STB, Latham etc.)? Also, when I hear about V&E, Baker Botts and the like, much of the discussion seems to be about the Houston offices. How do Austin and Dallas compare in terms of work, partnership, exit opps etc?

I would also appreciate it if someone had anything to share regarding lifestyle compared to NYC and between the Texas cities. From what I've heard, Houston firms tend to work on the most cutting edge work but also have it pretty rough hours-wise, but Dallas and Austin are more relaxed. How do the Texas firms differ from the national firms in this regard? I appreciate any help. I'm mainly interested in learning about corporate practices, but litigation would be helpful as well.

Mod note: This thread was moved into a more appropriate forum. The Legal Employment forum is for law students and graduates only.

The search feature has yielded some very fruitful information regarding these firms in my experience. I'd start there and just peruse threads that seem pertinent for Texas Biglaw.

I was wondering in particular if anyone had any info on the Regional V20 firms versus the top Texas funds and how they differ in terms of exit opps, quality of life, etc.
